Plastic recycling

Plastic recycling is a process of recovering scrap or waste plastics and reprocessing the materials in to other useful products, in some cases they can be changed completely from their original state. For example this could mean melting down a soft drinks bottle and that using this plastic to be casted in to plastic table and chairs. Before the days where we all recycled, plastics were all sorted in accordance to their rein identification code, this is a method of categorisation of polymer types, this was developed by the Society of the plastic industry 1988. When plastic is compared to other materials such as glass and metal material, plastics do require a greater process of recycling than the other products. Plastics have low entropy of mixing, this is due to the high molecular weight of their large polymer chains. A macromolecule interacts with its environment along its entire length, so its enthalpy of mixing is large compared to that of an organic molecule with a similar structure. By using the process of heating alone will not break down the large molecule, however because of these plastics must be a nearly identical composition in order to mix them efficiently.
